School-Of-O IRC Nick Help
- To change nicks use -> /NICK newnick
On cuff-link, non-Registered nicks are prevented from sending PM's. This forces you to register. On other irc sites its recommened so you can have the same nick evertime you connect. Protecting the nick prevents others from using it or pretending to be you.
- Register -> /ns register password email. An email is typically sent to the email account with a line that needs to be pasted into the chat program when connected to the site to validate the nick and complete registration
- Secure a Nick so O/others can not use it -> /ns set secure on
- Identify (login) -> /ns identify password
- Drop, must identify first then, be that nick -> /ns drop nick
- Kill your nick so you can log in when you ping out -> /ns ghost nick password
- Release your nick if it is locked -> /ns release password
- Request a VHost -> /hs request host.you.want.here (different nicks in your nick group can have different vhosts)
- Groups are used to combine multiple nicks under 1 account on an irc server. If you have mulitple nicks, grouping them is recommended.
- The room has aliases which act as groups in the room for the keeping of common records for all aliases. See JP if an alias is needed.
- Add a Nick to your group of nicks (ideal for Christmas, Holiday and away nicks), be that nick then -> /ns group mainnick password
- Remove a Nick from your group of nicks -> /ns ungroup nick
- See the nicks in a group -> /ns glist
- A VHost is an address mask that appears instead of the physical address of the computer you connect from.
- It is applied to your nick when you log in. This means you must register your nick to have one.
- This is shown in the WHOIS information.
- without VHOST -> TheCommand is TheCommand@@C-L.gg0.sgk.kmmqk4.IP
- with VHOST -> TheCommander is TheCommand@School.of.O * TheCommander
- It is strongly recommended you use a vhost for several reasons.
- it helps with true identity/information hiding
- it helps people know you are you and not an imposter or someone using the nick (if its unsecured).
- A VHOST can just be the address x.x.x or can include the user name x@x.x.x (x's are different words). It must have the . and 2, 3 or 4 parts.
- Different nicks in your nick group can have different vhosts. To do this you must request one for each nick
- To Request a VHost, use one of the following commands
- /hs request host.you.want.here
- OR
- /hs request Iw@nt.this.address
- Receive PM's only from people in the same channel -> /mode nick +c
- Check the status of a nick -> /ns status nick
- 0 - no such user online or the nickname is not registered
- 1 - user not recognized as nickname's owner ( not identifed )
- 2 - user recognized as owner via access list only (has set /ns access )
- 3 - user recognized as owner via password identification
- Register
- Secure
- Set a vhost on your nick.
- Y/you will need to Identify when Y/you come on, or Y/your nick will be automatically changed to a generic one and Y/your nick locked.
